Onyx Core

Onyx Core

The Onyx Core is an interactive system for soccer training. This soccer dome was developed to help soccer players train their soccer skills such as agility, accuracy, and shooting velocity. The dome is equipped with 8 addressable LED targets that sense the force of the ball impact. The suspended tensioned 360-degree net provides direct reverberation, creating dynamic feedback similar to a soccer match. During this project, a fully functional prototype was build to show the potential of such a dome and was tested with multiple users.

The target module
The conceptual dome consists of 8 LED-targets that have a piezo coaxial sensor that can detect ball force. With this data multiple training programs can be derived to train the user or user of this dome with 'tailor made' programs.

Target prototype slowmotion video
The core developed technology is sensing impact force without comprising the ball repercussion force with a target modules that can be attached to the tensioned net. A fully functional prototype of the LED Target was made and tested. Later on, three more LED target prototypes were made and tested.
The control device and application
The core of training dome is at the control unit. Here, players can interact with the device using their feet or interact with the supplemental training application. Below a conceptual representation is presented with the user interface of the application.
Fully functioning prototype
At the latest stage, a fully functioning prototype was build and testend with multiple users. By co-creation and feedback, the overall prototype was improved and new challenges and games were invented.
